18 March 2014 - Steel import statistics released for January 2014

Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) amount to 92 096 tonnes during January 2014.

According to data released by the South African Revenue Service, imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire)amount to 92 096 tonnes during January 2014, an increase of 58,5% compared with 58 107 tonnes imported during December 2013 and a decrease of 2,4% compared with 94 326 tonnes imported during January 2013.

Imports of primary carbon and alloy steel products (excluding semis, stainless steel and drawn wire) during the twelve months February 2013 to January 2014 amount to 1 336 710 tonnes, an increase of 57,4% compared with 849 429 tonnes of primary carbon and alloy steel products imported during the corresponding twelve month period.
