Evraz Highveld Steel and
Vanadium steelworks is situated in Witbank, with the domestic sales office in
Johannesburg. The company was established in 1960 and the current annual rated capacity of
the Steelworks is one million tons of hot metal cast into billets, blocks and slabs. From
this, approximately 350 000 tons are rolled to medium/heavy structural sections, rounds
and rails with about 200 000 tons rolled as plate and 180 000 tons as hot rolled coil.
Semi-finished products, such as billets are cast or rolled, depending on market demand and
steel availability.

ALLOYS AND VANADIUM PRODUCTS
At Transalloys,
silicomanganese and medium carbon ferromanganese are produced for both the local and export markets.
At Rand Carbide,
ferrosilicon, as well as various carbonaceous products, are produced, mainly for the local
market.
Vanchem produces a
variety of vanadium products, including oxides, ferrovanadium, ferrovanadium nitrate and chemicals.
A fully certified
system is in operation throughout all the various manufacturing processes. This system is documented in
accordance with the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9002 –2000.
